GO Wales graduate designs poster for Diabetes UK campaign
A graduate who created a poster during a placement at Diabetes UK Cymru has seen the poster launched and sent out to every doctor’s surgery and pharmacy in Wales.
Swansea University graduate Gemma Howell, 27, from Caerphilly, came up with the idea for a diabetes symptoms poster during a GO Wales Graduate Academy placement at the charity last summer.
The poster aims to highlight the symptoms of the condition as 66,000 people – around one in 50 – are estimated to have undiagnosed diabetes in Wales.
Gemma, who is now centre co-ordinator for EBSP Leadership, Equality and Diversity Centre and is studying a PGCE part-time, said: “I tried to put myself in the shoes of someone sat in a GP’s waiting room and thought about how to make the message of diabetes symptoms direct and accessible.
“I’m thrilled that my idea is being used and that it’s highlighting a cause that is often overlooked. It’s really nice to see someone take on one of my ideas and make it into a reality.”
