Final freelancer courses of 2011 are a huge hit with graduates

18 aspiring graduates recently attended the GO Wales Freelancer Academy Course at the new City Campus of University of Wales, Newport.

This innovative 6-day course is designed to provide the necessary skills and knowledge required by graduates to help them take the next step in starting a career as a freelancer or to set up their own business.

The course is delivered by professional consultants and experienced freelancers and focuses on assisting the participants to develop their original business idea into a formal business plan; on completion of the course successful participants are awarded the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Level 3 qualification ‘Starting your Enterprise’.

The participants were full of praise for the course; Dan Caulfield, a Film & Video Graduate of  University of Wales Newport said; “the GO Wales Freelancer course was recommended to me by Newport University careers service, the course provided a great environment to bounce ideas off my other class mates and receive advice and guidance on my business plan.”

Christopher Goodwin, a graduate in Networks & Web Development at University of Wales Newport stated “If I was to describe the academy in three words it would be fun, helpful and friendly. I now feel confident to take the first steps in starting my business alongside my part time job.”

Sara Saunders, a Mathematics graduate; “I heard about the Freelancer Academy as I have already taken part in a GO Wales work placement. My advice to any one thinking of taking part in the freelance academy would be to go for it!! The course is very helpful in gaining help and support when starting your business. You also receive a qualification and meet a range of great people.

We will be running Freelancer Courses again in 2012; courses will be available in a range of locations across Wales. In the meantime, if you would like to know more about starting a freelance career here are a few useful resources;
