Swansea-based derivatives trading company OSTC Wales creating 132 jobs

A derivatives trading company has announced plans to establish the largest trading floor in the UK outside of London in Swansea – in an investment creating 132 jobs.

OSTC Wales which was the first derivatives trading company to set up in Wales – said the majority will being graduates from Glamorgan and Cardiff University Trading Floor Schools, along with students from Swansea University.

The project is being supported with financial assistance from the Welsh Government which helped secure the project for Wales against other locations that were under consideration.

Business Minister Edwina Hart, who will visit OSTC today, described the expansion as a boost for Wales’ financial and professional services sector, one of nine key sectors identified with high growth potential.

Ms Hart said: “This is a major expansion project that will help establish Wales as a growing centre for this highly specialised sub sector.

“It will also create a significant number of skilled jobs that will enable graduates to remain in Wales to follow their careers and also attract the brightest talent to Wales.

“OSTC Wales has grown significantly since it began trading in Swansea in 2009 and I am pleased to hear it is working closely with Welsh universities and able to recruit the high calibre graduates it needs to support business growth.”

“We specialises in maximising the potential of every trader and trading opportunity in its chosen markets. This has been highlighted recently by OSTC Wales being awarded the Investors in People Gold award.”

OSTC Wales has a record of recruiting and training talented graduates to trade the financial markets using specialised and bespoke electronic software systems.

The company was formed as a joint venture between Kondor Trading and OSTC. It is now a significant participant in the world of soft commodities such as cocoa, coffee and sugar, energy markets, agricultural markets and fixed income markets.

The company will begin recruiting for its expansion in 2013 and will see graduate intakes each February and September through until 2017.

Dywedodd OSTC wales – sef y cwmni masnachu deilliadau cyntaf yng Nghymru – bydd y mwyafrif ohonynt yn raddedigion o Ysgolion Llawr Masnachu Prifysgol Morgannwg a Phrifysgol Caerdydd, ynghyd â myfyrwyr o Brifysgol Abertawe.

Mae’r prosiect yn cael ei gefnogi gan gymorth ariannol o Lywodraeth Cymru a oedd yn fodd i sicrhau’r prosiect i Gymru yn lle lleoliadau eraill a oedd yn cael eu hystyried.

Disgrifiodd y Gweinidog Busnes Edwina Hart, a fydd yn ymweld ag OSTC heddiw, yr ehangiad hwn fel hwb i sector gwasanaethau ariannol a phroffesiynol Cymru, sef un o naw sector allweddol lle nodwyd potensial am dwf uchel.

Dywedodd Ms Hart: “Mae hwn yn brosiect ehangu mawr a fydd yn help i sefydlu Cymru fel canolfan meithrin ar gyfer yr is-sector hynod arbenigol hwn.

“Bydd hefyd yn creu nifer sylweddol o swyddi crefftus a fydd yn galluogi graddedigion i aros yng Nghymru i ddilyn eu gyrfaoedd a hefyd denu’r doniau gorau i Gymru.

“Mae OSTC Wales wedi tyfu’n sylweddol ers dechrau masnachu yn Abertawe yn 2009 ac rwy’n falch clywed eu bod yn gweithio’n agos gyda phrifysgolion Cymru ac yn gallu recriwtio’r graddedigion o’r calibr uchel sydd eu hangen arnynt i gefnogi twf busnes.”

Dywedodd Michael Shirley, rheolwr gyfarwyddwr OSTC Wales: “Mae OSTC yn ymfalchïo mewn bod yn arweinydd ac yn gyflogwr delfrydol yn ein diwydiant.

Mae gan OSTC Wales hanes o recriwtio a hyfforddi graddedigion talentog i fasnachu yn y marchnadoedd ariannol drwy ddefnyddio systemau meddalwedd electronig arbenigol ac unigryw.

Ffurfiwyd y cwmni fel menter ar y cyd rhwng Kondor Trading ac OSTC. Mae bellach yn gyfranogwr arwyddocaol i fyd nwyddau meddal fel coco, coffi a siwgr, marchnadoedd ynni, marchnadoedd amaethyddol a marchnadoedd incwm penodol.

Bydd y cwmni’n dechrau recriwtio ar gyfer ehangu yn 2013 a bydd yn derbyn myfyrwyr bob Chwefror a Medi hyd 2017.
